Strong partnerships with schools, like- minded non-profit organizations and for profit organizations that either extend our mission and/or help us enhance the services that we provide to our students is a key component of our growth and sustainability.
Determined To Succeed students are enrolled in the middle school to high school tracks listed below. We have forged strong relationships with the administrations, counselors and teachers at each school site.
Christine O’Donovan Middle Academy to William and Carol Ouchi High School
(Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, LAUSD)
Palms Middle School to Alexander Hamilton High School
Whaley Middle School to Dominguez High School
(Compton Unified School District)
The Book Truck The Book Truck was developed by Elizabeth Dragga and Cornelia Funke. The Book Truck is a non-profit organization that gives away books to teens in under-served communities. They believe that every book is unique; every teen is an individual; and every person is a reader. Their mission is to empower teens to find the books that nourish their hearts and minds. Through our work, we are building a community of readers. They have developed a program to engage Determined To Succeed students in on-line book clubs with teens that they serve.
9 DOTS Founded by Stanford graduates with a passion for learning, 9 DOTS creates original STEM projects that teach students to explore, inquire and innovate. Our middle school and high school students will participate in summer programs and monthly STEM Workshops developed specifically for them that include Mindstorm Robotics, Website Design, coding and Stop Motion Animation.
The Posse Foundation The Posse Foundation identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes. Posse’s college and university partners award Posse Scholars four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships. We are proud to be a Posse Nominator.
SoCalCAN The mission of SoCalCAN is to cultivate and strengthen a network of professionals, programs, organizations, and institutions that, together, will increase the number of low-income students who access and complete a post-secondary education. Determined To Succeed is honored to be a member of the Steering Committee and share best practices with our fellow members.
The Young Center The Young Center was founded in 2000 on the belief that all children, regardless of race or economic circumstances, deserve to receive a quality education that will enable them to reach their full potential for success in college, business and in life. The CA Youth Think Tank is their highly selective summer Leadership program that our students have taken part in for the past two summers.
UniCamp / Unicorps We are very excited that our middle and high school students continue to attend these phenomenal camps each summer. It is an overnight camp created to give low-income kids the camping experience of a lifetime in Big Bear. The counselors are trained current UCLA students or graduates. For most of our students, it is the first time they are sleeping away from home!
The Varsity Games The Varsity Games creates full-inclusion teams by pairing underprivileged youth and children with special needs from the same high school. These blended teams compete against one another in the only League of its kind, giving children with developmental challenges the only real opportunity to participate in a mainstream high school sports experience. Several Determined To Succeed students at Hamilton High School participate as ‘coaches’ in THE VARSITY GAMES.
The Young Storytellers Foundation The Young Storytellers Foundation develops literacy through the art of storytelling by using group exercises and one-on-one mentoring resulting in student written stories that are brought to life through performances by professional actors. Young Storytellers staff train our high school students as mentors to guide our middle school students through a week long summer camps.
General Assembly General Assembly transforms thinkers into creators through education and opportunities in technology, business, and design. General Assembly piloted a one week intensive program for our students that gave them a taste of their approach to technology, business and design.
Vault Prep Vault Prep is a one-stop-shop for all of your educational service needs. They provide integrated, holistic, and comprehensive tutoring, test prep, admissions, and mentoring programs. Partners, Johnny Duda and Danielle Kirschbaum have been incredibly generous supporting our students with their A+ tutors/mentors.
