Our 2012 Poker Tournament benefits The Geffen Playhouse Education programs and Determined To Succeed. It was held on May 12th at the magnificent home of Playing for Good co-chairs, Adi & Jerry Greenberg. This year, thanks to a generous sponsorship from the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas, we exceeded all expectations. The 150 enthusiastic competitors played from noon to 9:15 at night! Fortunately, each player and their guest were able to stay relaxed and pampered with spa services throughout the day. Hank garnered support from fellow actor/producers-and-poker aficionados Ben Affleck, James L. Brooks, Grant Heslov, Richard Kind, Camryn Manheim and Kevin Pollack.
Eighteen players made it to that coveted final round, and each of them walked away with fabulous prize packages. The winner, Scott Vener snagged a seat at the World Series of Poker and an all-expense-paid trip to Las Vegas. All spa activities and prizes, including those provided for our silent auction, were generously donated to the tournament. The players’ entry fees raised a significant amount of money for the Geffen Playhouse’s education programs and Determined to Succeed. Special thanks to Hank, who initiated a push to raise an additional $30,000 to help cover our college bound students’ tuition expenses not covered by their financial aid packages. Thanks so much to the many super generous guests who heeded his request.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to our Poker Chairs and Hosts: Hank & Katie Azaria, Adi & Jerry Greenberg, Johnny Kedj and our dear friends and partners Regina Miller and the Geffen Playhouse for making this such an outstanding event.
