Earthwatch Expedition

Gabby, member of the High School 2019 Class, had the opportunity to go to an Earthwatch Expedition to study Caterpillars and Climate Change in Arizona for two weeks.

Gabby shares, “I had never been away from home for that long, and it was also my first time visiting another state, so I was pretty scared about the trip. It ended up being one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I was in a research team along with 8 other high school students from the LA County, 5 scientists, and 2 facilitators.  I realized that scientific work in not all lab coats and chemicals. There are other components like field work, which was my favorite (the part where we collected the caterpillars). This program really helped me understand the great importance of scientific research, and the need for it to expand. I left with great new friendships as well as connections, and I would definitely recommend anybody whether you consider yourself a science nerd or not to apply. The experience is like no other.”
