Summer Interns

Last month we welcomed six college interns to the DTS team.  Brittany, Gaby, Jackie, Josh, and Krystal, members of the College 2020 Class, are sponsored this summer by

AmeriCorps VISTA.  AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program that supports individuals working with an organization that is designed to bring communities out of poverty.  They each will receive a living allowance and an educational award or a stipend for their service.

Maddy, our sixth intern, joins the team through a paid internship grant from Whitman College, where she is a rising senior.  She applied for the position based on her interests in social justice and community service, and DTS is delighted to have her fresh perspective and energy.  She jumped in with both feet on day one, without knowing anyone, and we are grateful for her breadth of skills, including photography!

Our interns are working primarily on DTS summer programming, serving as counselors for DTS Outdoors, helping to create and implement the curriculum for Bridge to College and Bridge to High School, even teaching lessons.  They jump in wherever there is a need for an extra hand, and their computer and social media skills are invaluable.  Most importantly, the interns serve as a vital link in our college-going process.  They have walked in the shoes of our younger classes and are a source of information and inspiration that cannot be provided by a teacher or college counselor.
